The Alum Cave Bluffs trail to the summit of Mount LeConte provides numerous views of the Great Smoky Mountains: The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a major tourist attraction in the region.Over 11.3 million recreational visitors (tourists) a an additional 11 million non recreational visitors traveled to or through the park in 2016. The recreational figure represents nearly twice as many tourists as the Grand Canyon which recived nearly 6 million visitors the same year. surrounding towns notable Gatlinburg Pigeon Forge Sevierville and Townsend Tennessee and Cherokee Sylva Maggie Valley and Bryson City North Caroline receive a significant portion of their income from tourist associated with the park. The two main visitors centers inside the park are Sugar lands Visitors Center near the Gatlinburg entrance to the park and Oconaluftee Visitor Center near Cherokee North Carolina at the eastern entrance to the park.

Coffee shop : The coffee shop at Volcano House offers a volcanic menu. The menu for example contains geothermally grown Icelandic vegetables and geotherally baked rye bread. The food served at the coffee shop is cooked with barley and cold pressed organic rape seed oil grown in the regions around Eyjafjallajokull. The coffee at Volcano House coffee shop is brewed from beans grown in the volcanic hills of Guatemala and a pece of chocolate lava is served with the coffee.
Design: The interior design of the exhibition is meant to look like it's from 1973 which is the year when the volcanic eruption in Heimaey in the Westman Islands occurred.

Exhibition: A brief synopsis of Iceland's geological history and volcanic system are displayed in the Volcano House together with photographs of the volcanic eruptions and other aspects of Icelandic nature. Volcano House offers a hands o geology exhibition where guests can handle various samples of pumice ash and lava from Icelandic volcanoes for example ash from Eyjafjallajokull and Grimsvoth and pumice from Hekla. A collection of semi precious rocks and minerals from around the country are also on display and are available for purhase. Rocks on display are for example Jaspis Opal Obsidian Rock crystal and Iceland spar. Volcano House offers guidance and information throughout the exhibit.

Opening and dedication: Stanley Monument unveiled 19 May 1960  dedicating the park to the use and enjoyment of people of all colours and creeds and customs for all time. On September 27, 1888 the park was officially opened (although the legal status of Deadman's Island as part of the park would remain ambiguous for many years).

The park was named after Lord Stanley who had recently become Canada's sixth governor general (and who is perhaps best known today for having donated the Stanley Cup that was later hunded down to the National Hockey League). Mayor David Oppenheimer gave a formel the park to the public and delivering authority for its management to the park committee. The following year Lord Stanley became the first governor general to visit British Columbia when he officially dedicated the park. Mayor Oppenheimer led a procession of vehicles around Brockton Point along the newly completed Park Road to the clearing at Prospect Point. An observer at the event wrote: Lord Stanley threw his arms to the heavens as though embracing within them the whole of 1,000 acres [400 ha] of primeval forest and dedicated it to the use and enjoyment of peoples of all colours creeds and customs for all time.
