Tourist attraction in Stanley park, Canada

Stanley park
Opening and dedication: Stanley Monument unveiled 19 May 1960  dedicating the park to the use and enjoyment of people of all colours and creeds and customs for all time. On September 27, 1888 the park was officially opened (although the legal status of Deadman's Island as part of the park would remain ambiguous for many years).

The park was named after Lord Stanley who had recently become Canada's sixth governor general (and who is perhaps best known today for having donated the Stanley Cup that was later hunded down to the National Hockey League). Mayor David Oppenheimer gave a formel the park to the public and delivering authority for its management to the park committee. The following year Lord Stanley became the first governor general to visit British Columbia when he officially dedicated the park. Mayor Oppenheimer led a procession of vehicles around Brockton Point along the newly completed Park Road to the clearing at Prospect Point. An observer at the event wrote: Lord Stanley threw his arms to the heavens as though embracing within them the whole of 1,000 acres [400 ha] of primeval forest and dedicated it to the use and enjoyment of peoples of all colours creeds and customs for all time. I name the Stanley Stanley Park.

Tourist attraction in Granville Island

Popular Granville Island
History: The peninsula was originally used by First Nations as a fishing area. North west Granville Island in 1922. Many of the buildings shown here are still standing as of 2006. The city of Vancouver was called Granville until it was renamed in 1886 but the former name was kept and given to Granville Street which spanned the small inlet known as False Creek. False Creek in the late 19th century was more than twice today's size and its tidal flats included a large permanent sandbar over which spanned the original rickety wooden Granville Street bridge. This sandbar which would eventually become Granville Island was first mapped by Captain George Henry Richards in the British Boundary Commission's naval expdition in 1858-59 and the island today conforms roughly to the size and shape documented

When to go : Eastern Townships is an all season destination. Winter offers downhill skiing at Mont Orford ice fishing on Lake Massawippi and snowshoeing cross country skiing and snowmobiling on trails throughout the region. Summer is busiest with golf tennis sailing kayaking windsurfing fishing hiking and biking. spring and autumn bring fewer crowds and colorful foliage. I tell people to come in spring fall when there' s less people around Gallup says. North Hatley gets really quiet but most things don't close in winter. From Montreal it's only about an hour's drive southeast via Autoroute 10 and 1-91 north from vermont becomes Highway 55 when you cross the border into the Eastern Townships.

Favorite tourist places in Canada - 2

Stratford, Ontario: Stratford is home to the Stratford Festival which is like nirvana for theater fans like me. During the festival which stages everything from Shakespeare to Sondheim to new Canadian plays you can stay in theater themed B and Bs hang out with actors post show at local bars like Down the Street go on backstage tours and attend dozens of other events with other theater mad folk. Stratford itself is the type  walkable wholesome town Rodgers and Hammerstein might write a musical about. Evangeline Trail, Nova Scotia: Longfellow' s epic poem Evangeline evokes the story of two lovers who were wrenched apart during the 1755 expulsion of Nova Scotia' s French Acadians. The tragic tale unfolded along Nova Scotia' s northern shore where the Acadians eked out a living as farmers along the famous Bay of Fundy tidal bore. One of my favorite bike rides is through this bucolic region past the picturesque fields and through the historic villages between Annapolis Royal and Wolfville. The scenery is absolutely stunning but Evangeline' s story gives it an added touch of romance and a haunting sense of loss.

Favorite tourist places in Canada - 1

Banff, Alberta: Natural hot springs inspired a luxury spa culture in Banff but for me it's all about the Rocky Mountain high. On a recent visit I couldn' t bear to waste a moment out of sight of those craggy peaks forgoing sleep for sunrise hikes and late drinks alfresco. Even Marilyn Monroe who shot River of No Return here in 1953 could scarcely compete with its scenic splendor (in the words of critics of the day). The beauty here is panoramic whether from the banks of Bow Falls between downtown and the castle like Fairmont Banff Springs hotel or from the top of Tunnel Mountain the littlest summit in Banff with its trailhead just a few blocks from the town' s main drag ( a heart thumping 853 feet up 1.5 miles of switchbacks just don' t look for a tunnel the name is a misnomer). A day trip away is Lake Louise its deep emerald magic best taken in along a hike to the rustic teahouses of the surrounding mountains and old growth forest. Tip: After a day of soaking up Alberta's free beauty splurge on dinner at Eden inside Banff' s Rimrock Resort Hotel where eye filling window views rival the regional specialties and Canadian wine pairings of the chef' s tasting menu.

Tourist attractions in Quetico Provincial Park, Canada

When to go: June and July are best for fishing but high season for mosquitoes and black flies. July and August are the warmest most popular months. Visitor numbers are regulated so you can arrive during peak season and still have a wonderful wilderness experience says Debbie Mark of Seagull Outfitters. The fall foiage is spectacular in Stember with minimal bugs but colder temperatures. Park services and outfitter shops close for the season in September so self guided travel isn't recommended in winter since emergency help and essential services aren't available. How to get around: Dawson Trail the most popular entry point is located just off Highway 11 on French Lake 30 miles east of the town of Atikokan. Outfitters run shuttle services from Thunder Bay's airport. There are also fly in canoe options to designated areas. If you' re not bringing your own canoe and camping gear outfitters like Seagull Canoe Canada Outfitters Canadian Quetico Outfitters and Qutfitters can provide all necessary equipment and help customize your route.

Popular tourist attractions in Prince Albert National Park,Canada

When to go : As with most parks in Canada Prince Albert is busiest in the summer months of June to August. Catch the forest's fall colors in September when the crowds thin and the weather is still mild. One of my favorite spots is the 5.2 mile Spruce River Highlands Trail says park interpreter Bradley Muir. It' s one of the only places where you can get above the trees to see the crowns of the hills and surrounding panoramas which play best in the fall. Golden aspen leaves on the crowns orange and gold tamaracks in the lowlands it really reflects one of the core messages of the park which is the transition from south to north. The park welcome cross country skiers lake skaters backcountry snowshoeing and ice fishermen in winter although accommodation and amenities are limited.

How to get around: Prince Albert contains extensive hiking trails for all levels although you might prefer a guided horseback and wagon ride with an operator such as Sturgeon River Ranch. Horses allow you to cover more ground and the Sturgeon River guides are experts at tracking the elusive bison which typically graze in remote meadows buffered by thick woods. Traveling single file on horseback is the best way to navigate through the brambles mud and other obstacles and venturing into the backcountry increases the likelihood of seeing moose mule deer and black bears.

Popular tourist attractions in Newfoundland and Labrador Coast, Canada

When to go: The best time to see icebergs is from mid May to early June along the northeastern coast of the island of Newfoundland and from March to July off the coast of the mainland Labrador region. By late July early August icebergs still may be visible along Newfoundland' s northeastern coast from St. Anthony down to Twillingate. While it's impossible to guarantee you' ll see icebergs it pays to track their progress online before you visit. How to get around: It's a different experience when you see an iceberg from land as opposed to getting up alongside and feeling its size and awesomeness explains James Gillard of Skipper Jim' s Boat Tours. Twillingate' s Northland Discovery Boat Tours also allow passengers to view the floating shards from outboard and tuqlike motorboats. Stan Cook Sea Kayak Adventures runs half full and multiday guided trips along the east coast. Public transit is limited in Newfoundland so you'll want to rent a car in the capital city St. John' s before heading up.

Popular tourist attractions in Waterton National Park, Canada

When to go: Although the park is open year round over half its visitors come in July and August. June's Waterton Wild Flower Festival celebrates the explosion of color rare orchids bear grass and 30 kinds of flowers that only grow here with photography workshops guided hikes and field classes. Says Banff transplant Mary Harding It's like walking through a bouquet whereever you go. Fall foliage paints the landscape in wonderful yellows and reds and late autumn hosts thousands of migrating waterfowl. Blasting chinook winds make Waterton one of the warmest areas in Alberta each winter however visitor facilities services and accommodation options are limited.

Popular tourist attractions in Lake Winnipeg (Canada)

When to go: Warm lake water buttresses Grand Beach's 1.8 mile sandy strip swelling with crowds in the summer months. In July and August visit Patricia Beach to picnic in front of the sand dunes and walk out into the warm lake water on the sand bars. Victoria Beach is a private resort hamlet operated by cottage owners so renting here comes with the added perk of a more relaxed pace and locals only vibe. One of North America's oldest continuous ethnic festivals the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba (held since 1890) takes place in Gimli early August. The annual celebration draws 50,000 visitors seeking to embrace their inner Viking. Family focused events including a folk music festival and fireworks center on a circa A.D. 800 living history village where a hundred re enactors don authentic Viking grab. Popular tourist place in the world

Cliff walking : Dubbed the world's deadliest hike the Huashan mountain trail in China is not for the faint hearted. Tethered to a safety line on the rock face hikers make their way across wooden planks and sheer cliff edge to reach one of the world' s most remote tea houses over 2000m high. There are plenty of other (slightly) less pant wetting paths around the world like the Caminito el Rey in Spain which underwent a hefty restoration in 2015.

High altitude urban experience : Adture activities are often thought to be the remit of the great outdoors but thrill seekers can get all their kicks without venturing to the sticks. Many cities offer high altitude adrenaline pumping tours from abseiling off famous buildings to walking around the outer edges of iconic skyscrapers attached to a safety wire. New Zealand's Auckland Sky Tower and Toronto' s CN Tower both offer tours around their heady heights. Alternatively try abseiling 100m down Rotterdam' s Euromast. I cried real tears on the CN Tower EdgeWalk. But honestly it was life changing and there' s not really much I' m scared of anymore. Lauren Finney US Magazine Editor at Lonely Planet.
